Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the service 'Claim for redundancy and monies owed' at https://match.redundancy-payments.service.gov.uk/claims/start.

This website is run by the Insolvency Service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 400 % without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software

We also try to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

There are many options for you to customise your web browser and device that could help you to navigate this and other websites more easily. If you have a disability, AbilityNet has helpful advice on how to make your device easier to use.

How accessible this website is

Parts of this website are known to have barriers. For example:

  • Some headings are not in a logical order. This might give the impression that content is missing or being skipped over when using a screen reader.
  • A navigational landmark is implemented that contains no navigation options. This might cause confusion with screen reader users that expect elements to be present.
  • Some of the form elements, that should be grouped, don't have the correct fieldset and legend associated. This makes them harder to understand when using screen readers because the visible relation isn't relayed to them.
  • Some form elements have incorrect or multiple labels assigned to them. This will cause no information to be relayed to screen reader users.
  • Some questions act as radio buttons but aren't marked up as such in code. This might cause operational problems for keyboard or assistive technology users.
  • Not all errors in form elements are identified correctly when submitting forms with invalid fields. This may cause errors to be missed when submitting information.
  • HTML tables are not marked up correctly. This causes them to be harder to operate by screen reader users because the relational information isn't conveyed to them properly.

The Insolvency Service is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with WCAG2.1 AA

  • Some pages have missing heading structures. This means screen reader users might assume information is missing or being skipped over. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • Some form fields are not grouped together by a fieldset with legend combination. This makes it harder for screen readers to understand how fields are related. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • There is a navigation landmark (nav) present, without the expected navigational content. This gives screen reader users the impression they are missing content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • An email field has two labels associated with it, causing them both to be read by screen readers. This causes potential confusion. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • Some form fields are missing their individual labels. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • Some tables in content are incorrectly formatted. This means assistive technologies will not read the tables correctly. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
  • Some additional helper text for fields isn't read automatically to screen readers. This increases the chance that fields are completed with errors. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and relationships).
  • Some pages have duplicate titles and are not describing the content accurately. This may make it difficult for users to orient themselves and find the right content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.2 (Page Titled).
  • Not all errors are identified when forms are submitted. Some errors are only identified when no other errors are present. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.1 (Error identification).
  • Not all HTML conforms W3C specification, including structural code that might affect how assistive technologies handle the page. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.1 (Parsing).

What we're doing to improve accessibility

The issues are currently being worked on, and a new version of the site is expected in 2022.
